Board and Body LBJ: Floating Fitness, Quiet Mornings, and a Little Time for Yourself
There are plenty of ways to spend a morning on Lake LBJ.
You can go boating. You can fish. You can sit on the dock with a cup of coffee and watch the water wake up.
But after spending a Saturday morning with Board and Body LBJ in Granite Shoals, I discovered one of the most peaceful and unique ways to experience the lake.
Before sunrise, a small group of women gathered at the water's edge. Paddleboards were lined up along the shoreline as friends chatted quietly and prepared for the morning ahead. The lake was calm. Birds called from the trees overhead. Dragonflies skimmed across the water's surface.
As we paddled away from shore, it became clear that this wasn't just another fitness class.
It was an opportunity to slow down.
Once everyone reached the workout location, the boards were tethered together and floating fitness began. For the next hour, we moved through a series of balance, core, and strength exercises while floating gently on Lake LBJ.
The water rippled beneath the boards. Cranes swooped overhead. Fish occasionally broke the surface nearby.
There were no televisions.
No crowded gym.
No distractions.
Just movement, fresh air, and the peaceful sounds of the lake.
What makes Board and Body LBJ especially meaningful is the story behind it.
Founder Jessica Butler launched the business in March 2026 after her own postpartum recovery journey inspired the idea. While working with a therapist to strengthen her core after having a baby, she found herself facing a challenge familiar to many new moms: finding enough time in the day.
Jessica loved paddleboarding and often used it as an opportunity to enjoy a little quiet time for herself. But if she spent 45 minutes on the paddleboard, that was 45 minutes she wasn't spending on her recovery exercises.
One day she decided to combine the two.
What started as a practical solution quickly became something bigger.
Jessica realized that other women, especially mothers, were likely searching for the same thing she was: a way to care for themselves without adding another obligation to an already full schedule.
That idea eventually became Board and Body LBJ.
Today, Jessica hosts floating fitness classes every Saturday morning in Granite Shoals. The classes are intentionally small, creating an environment that feels welcoming, supportive, and personal. Whether you're looking for movement, community, or simply a peaceful start to your weekend, the experience meets you where you are.
And while the classes provide a great workout, I left feeling like the biggest benefit wasn't physical at all.
It was mental.
For one hour, nobody needed anything from you.
There were no errands to run.
No emails to answer.
No endless list of responsibilities waiting to be checked off.
Just the sunrise, the water, and a little time that felt completely your own.
Board and Body LBJ is also creating a positive impact beyond the lake. Jessica has partnered with local doulas and postpartum support professionals to provide complimentary classes for newly postpartum mothers. It's a thoughtful extension of the mission that inspired the business in the first place: helping women make space for themselves.
In addition to Saturday morning classes, Board and Body LBJ also offers private events. Whether you're planning a girls' weekend, birthday celebration, wellness retreat, bachelorette gathering, or simply a unique morning with friends, Jessica can bring the boards directly to your location and customize the experience with sunrise or sunset sessions.
For Granite Shoals, a community that is primarily known for its residential neighborhoods and lake access, Board and Body LBJ brings something refreshingly different. It's one of the few experience-based businesses operating directly on Lake LBJ and offers both locals and visitors a reason to start their morning on the water.
If you're looking for a new summer tradition, a unique activity while visiting the Highland Lakes, or simply an excuse to carve out an hour for yourself, Board and Body LBJ may be exactly what you need.
Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is step away from the noise, paddle out onto the lake, and remember what it feels like to simply be present.
