Inside One of Llano’s Most Thoughtfully Curated Shops: The Wild Weed
Some stores feel transactional.
Some feel deeply personal.
The moment I walked into The Wild Weed on the historic square in Llano, I could immediately tell this was the second kind.
The shop is warm, layered, and quietly creative. Shelves are filled with handcrafted pottery, herbal tinctures, handmade soaps, woven textiles, candles, artwork, skincare, and carefully sourced artisan goods that somehow all feel cohesive together. Nothing inside feels mass produced. Every piece feels chosen with intention.
Owner Mary Chamberlain has spent the last seven years building that feeling.
When she’s not gardening or working in the shop, she’s searching for local artists and makers whose work tells a story. That passion shows in every corner of the space. The Wild Weed doesn’t feel like a trendy boutique trying to imitate craftsmanship. It feels like a genuine celebration of it.
One of the first things that catches your eye is Mary’s herb and tea wall, which has become the heart of the shop. Rows and rows of herbs and loose leaf teas line the shelves, with blends focused on everything from relaxation and sleep to energy, focus, and calming your nerves. Mary has even created many of her own herbal tea concoctions herself and proudly walks customers through the different options depending on what they’re looking for.
And honestly, that’s part of what makes the experience feel so special.
You’re not just buying tea. You’re slowing down long enough to have a conversation, try something new, and wander through a space built with care.
Throughout the month of May, visitors can mention Highland Lakes Hot Spots for half off a freshly brewed cup of tea while they explore the shop.
The Wild Weed is located in a former vodka distillery space that Mary has completely transformed into her own world, and every artist featured inside adds another layer to the experience.
One of my favorite discoveries was the work of local Llano artisan Charles Gierman, who hand-weaves beautiful cream-colored blankets on his own loom. The blankets have rich texture, warmth, and subtle detail that immediately make you appreciate the craftsmanship behind them. They feel timeless in the best possible way.
The artwork throughout the shop is equally striking. Painter Jeremy Serna’s pieces immediately caught my attention, especially “Along the Embered Path,” a beautiful western painting featuring a cowboy on horseback with rich warmth and movement throughout the piece.
I was also drawn to the pottery work of Angela Rogers, whose handmade seed pots have an incredibly unique organic style. Seed pots have deep historical roots and were traditionally used to store seeds safely between planting seasons, preserving future harvests and symbolizing sustainability, patience, and growth. Angela’s interpretation feels both rustic and artistic while still honoring that tradition.
The shop is also filled with thoughtful herbal and wellness products, including tinctures from Enchanted Mushrooms. I especially loved the lion’s mane mushroom liquid extract, which is often associated with memory and cognitive support.
Another piece I genuinely haven’t stopped thinking about was a stunning mesquite wood and iron mirror handcrafted by Lou Quallenberg. The natural grain of the mesquite paired with the iron detailing made it feel more like functional art than furniture, and I’m still debating whether I need to go back for it.
There are also hand-poured Texas-inspired candles from South of Here Co., locally sourced honey from Fain's Honey, and beautifully crafted goat milk soaps from Old Factory in their Field & Flower collection.
What I appreciated most about The Wild Weed is that it never feels overly curated in a corporate way. It feels personal. Comfortable. Human.
It’s the kind of place where you walk in for a cup of tea and end up staying much longer than you planned.
And honestly, those are usually the best kinds of places to find.
